[Tell someone about this]
By Tweaking the templates
Richard Q Edit MessageUploaded - 1 Nov 2002 01:56

I think your script templates are excellent, and thank you for producing them. One day I might sell a script!

However, the layouts used on the BBC writer's room ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/guidelines/guidelines.shtml )[Link] are different from yours - not substantially, but enough for me to want to tweak the templates. Although I can do the format/styles/modify etc. bit, I'm not having much success in altering the names, which remain unaffected whatever I do. If I go into Macros (don't know if that's right way to do it) I come across the need for a password. What I want to do with the names is alter the colour, and the spacing until the dialogue starts - things like that.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated, though I realise that you probably get requests like this every day.

Thank you,

Richard Q

Dear Richard,

Sorry to have taken some time to respond.

Thank you for the information on the BBC script styles.

The password on the macros is there to protect my copyright in the design of
the templates and I regret that I am unwilling to relinquish control.

The spacing and colours can be changed by modifying the tab positions, indent positions and colour properties of the Styles called Name, Dialogue and Directions, but it is not possible to alter every aspect without re-writing some of the macros. Click the Show/Hide Paragraph icon to see where the macros generate tabs etc. For the underlined Sound Fx style you would need to change the indent, then when your script is nearly ready do a global replace of Fx: by F/X: tab.

I aim to produce a re-written set of templates for Office-2000, Office-98 (Macintosh) and Office-XP at some stage, but have no time table yet. At that time I will incorporate the new BBC script styles.

Bill

Many thanks for your reply, Bill. Quite understand about the copyright issues. Look forward to the updates.
