By I can't find the Smiley Button
Laurie T Edit MessageUploaded - 17 Nov 2001 03:02

I have downloaded the Scriptwriters' Toolkit and am trying to use it to format my scripts, but when attempting to get started the instructions on page 0 tell me to "double click on the Smiley Button above..."

There is no smiley button that I can see and have not been able to work out how to get past this important first step. .

Please tell me which version of Microsoft Word you are using, and confirm that you have read page 5 of Script Templates (Word 6) Instructions.doc which was included with the templates and please confirm that you have or have not been able to get the Word 2 toolbar into view.

Thank you for your quick response. I am using Microsoft Word 2000 and have not read the instructions because Script Templates (Word 6) instructions.doc does not seem to be in the group of documents that appeared in my zip files after I downloaded the package. I've got the three for stage, one for studio, one for film, a tipsheet and a couple of readme docs. Also, I have not been able to get the Word 2 toolbar into view.

I appreciate your help and apologize for any inconvenience I am causing you.

Regards,
Laurie T

Dear Laurie,

The Instructions doc is one of those miscellaneous docs which were in the zip file. Change your folder-view until you can see the full length of the document names.

However starting from Word 2000 I am not at all sure that you can get a functional template from the existing copies on the website, which are configured for earlier versions of Word, so I am going to put up a fresh set configured for Word 97, within the next week. These I believe will work with Word 2000, and I will be checking that out before I upload.

Which style of script do you need first (Film,Radio,Stage?), I will email you an advance copy of the Word97 versions.

Dear Bill,

Can't tell you how much I appreciate your help on all of this. These templates will be invaluable to me once I get them up and running, so I look forward to the updated versions.

As for the moment, the template I need the most is the Studio one for sitcom. However, if that is not possible, I also write plays and can use the stage format.

I changed the folder-view in my zipfiles and found the instructions document. It was helpful, as I could finally see what I was supposed to be seeing, but upon applying the instructions in Word 2000, as you predicted, it wasn't really compatible.

Thanks again for you help.
Regards,
Laurie
