Windows XP Firewall.
XP has a built in firewall, so if you do not already have a firewall elsewhere in your system, such as in a broadband router, it is highly advisable to turn the firewall on. First open the "Network Connections" folder from the control panel. In there should be your Dialup connections and any LAN (local area network) connection. On each of the dialup connections, do a right-button click and select Properties. When the Properties box comes up Click the Advanced tab and then tick the top box called Internet Connection firewall. And then click OK. If you have broadband via a USB modem, then there should be an entry (that looks like a dialup entry) for the broadband modem, treat it like the other dialups. If you are not using a LAN (i.e you have only one computer connected) and not using special features like Netmeeting or other video conferencing that is all you need to do. For Netmeeting users you also need to tick some more boxes after clicking the [Settings] button at the bottom right of Advanced tab, but I don't have that info on hand I will add it later. I understand that when you install the new revision to Windows XP, which is called Service Pack 2 (or SP2) it will tirn on the Windows XP firewall as a default situation. It has also been improved. Bill.
